What’s in a name?

So…you may be asking yourself, “Why, pray tell, is your blog called ‘four door shack’?” Well, ok, you’re probably NOT asking yourself that question, it’s just a stupid way for me to segue in a story about my last name.

I have been blessed with at last name like Fed-or-czak. It’s great. It’s unique. It’s far to complicated to try and get straight over the phone. Allow me to demonstrate a mock telephone conversation:

Customer Service Person: “…and your last name sir.”

Me: “I’ll spell it for you. It’s “F” like Frank, E-D, O-R, “C” like Cat, “Z” like ZEBRA, A-K.”

I have probably repeated this game at least a thousand times by now, and all of I have to say is:  Thank god for the internet. Now, when I absolutely cannot live another second without the latest ebay nic nack, I can simply type my amazingly complex name into a text field. Yeay!

Ok, ok, but this doesn’t explain the four-door-shack. Well, my mother’s little way to make our scary ethnic name more palpable was to say, “Fed-or-czak, just like a four-door-shack.”

So there you go. I’ve inadvertently dedicated this blog to my mother. All you Fruedians can just settle down.
